Howdy! I’m LeeAnn! Welcome to the Hot Mess Community!
This is a place for women to come to find encouragement for getting through the messiness of being a woman.
I was medically retired from the military after 18 years back in 2011. But these days, I’m a mom to a very head-strong teenage daughter, an adult son who still lives at home, and 3 very large (and needy) fur-babies!
After nearly 20 years of being away from home in the military, I’m so blessed to be able to work from home now as a Christian blogging coach and Christian blogger.
Also, if you hang out here any amount of time, you’ll come to find out how much I LOVE my church and church family! Seriously! You’ll totally want to hop on a plane to come for a visit just to see what all the fuss is about lol!
A Little About My Mess
I’ve had a pretty colorful life:
- Childhood sexual abuse
- divorced parents
- parental alcoholism
- knocked up at 17
- married a drug dealer (and divorced a drug dealer)
- weight issues
- served in the military
- 3 more husbands
- 2 more kids (2 different dads)
- had an abortion
- nearly homeless
- addicted to prescription medication
- chronic back pain
- PTSD, Major Depression, and Anxiety
- There’s much more but this gives you a glimpse into my life!
After leaving the military, I struggled with severe anxiety and depression and didn’t know how to be a civilian woman. It was so hard for me to make women friends because I just didn’t know how to fit in with them.
I also didn’t want them knowing about certain things of my past because I felt they would judge me for it. But as I got to know more and more women (mostly through my job and through serving at church), I began to realize that many of these women also had similar things going on in their lives (and were trying to hide it).
We portray this perfect life on Instagram and other social media. Why? So others think we have it all together. But in reality, most of us are often holding on my just a thread!
And, just for the record – Christian women are the worst!! So, whether you are a Christ-follower or not, the hard truth is that we are all just trying to hold it together!
As I grew stronger in my faith (I was not a follower of Christ for most of my life), I began to understand that most of what I believed about being a woman was a lie!
The truth is that all of us face the same struggles in our lives. Whether it be as a mom, a wife, a friend. Or even just trying to be a “good Christian” (by the way, there is no “perfect” Christian because no matter how close to God we think we are – we are all STILL sinners).
We all have skeletons in our closets. We all do things (or have done things) that we think others will disown us if they found out.
We also all put on a facade for the general public. Truth be told, I have dog hair in my fridge! I haven’t deep-cleaned my toilet in….I’m pretty sure that simply spraying Lysol will kill anything dangerous hanging out there!
Girlfriend! We are ALL in this mess together!!
Instead of hiding in shame, God created us to stand boldly in our faith. Faith that HIS GRACE has us covered.
My favorite verse – and the one I created this community around is Ecclesiastes 4:12 NIV
Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
When we band together as Sisters, we aren’t so easily tempted by the enemy’s lies. We can be there to pick each other up and support one another in times of need.
God didn’t create us to do life alone. He intended on us having a tribe of other women to help us through the trials and storms – and to celebrate the blessings with us!
I pray that you’ll find comfort here, knowing that no matter what your past holds, how much of a MESS that you think you’ve made of your life, God’s got you!
I also pray that if you don’t go to church or you haven’t yet started sipping on the Jesus Juice (accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior), that you do! After a lifetime of mistakes and feeling empty – unable to fill a void, no matter how hard I tried (and boy did I try!) – when I made the decision to give my life to Christ and live a Godly life – EVERYTHING CHANGED!
I hope you stick around and come back often! Be sure to connect with me on your favorite social channel. You can also sign up for my newsletter if you’d like to get the newest posts sent to your inbox.
